TOG value
SAFETY
Nothing is more important than the safety of your baby. Reason why we design our products with the greatest attention for this topic.
The materials we use are free of harmful substances
To protect the sensitive skin of your baby against irritation and allergies, we exclusively use materials that are marked with the OEKO-TEX 100 class 1 label. This means they do not contain any harmful substances that can be dangerous to the health of little children.
Our products have been designed according the applicable guidelines for safety
We closely follow the developments for kids and safety in Europe. With the development of our baby bedding we closely looked at the applicable guidelines and involved various safety experts in the baby and kids industry.
The warmth level of our blankets has been tested (TOG value)
It is very important that your baby is not too hot or too cold. But how do you know if the bedding you use or the clothes your little one is wearing are not too hot for him or her? More and more products get TOG tested. TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and is a value that describes the warmth or ‘thermal resistance’ of a product. The higher the TOG, the warmer the product. To find the right balance, you can add the TOG values of clothing and bedding. But please note, the TOG value is only supportive tool. Because each baby can respond differently to covers and clothing, it is important to check whether he or she is not too hot or too cold by feeling their neck and feet (skin may not be clammy or cold).
An independent laboratory, called Centexbel, has tested the Witlof for kids blankets on TOG value. A TOG value for single use of the blanket as well as for double use of the blanket is available and is indicated with each of the blankets on our site.
This is how you calculate the total TOG value:
- 16°C or colder: keep a TOG value of about 3.5. The guideline for this is a romper, pajama/box suit, sheet and blanket. We recommend our velvet blanket.
- 16-20°C: maintain a TOG value of approximately 3.0. The guideline for this is a romper, pajama/box suit, sheet and (thinner) blanket. We recommend the velvet blanket or else the wave blanket for babies who are often cold.
- 20-22 °C: keep a TOG value of about 2.0. The guideline for this is a romper, pajamas/box suit, sheet and (thinner) blanket. We recommend the wave blanket.
- 23-24 °C: keep a TOG value of approximately 1.0. The guideline is a romper with a thin blanket or sleeping bag. We recommend our wave blanket or our summer sleeping bags.
- 24°C or warmer: keep a TOG value of about 0.5. The guideline for this is just a diaper.
Safety tips to make a baby bed
- Avoid loose bedding
- Do not put the cover too high up: your little one has its feet close to the footboard of the bed and the bedding reaches up to its shoulders.
- Always tuck the cover in
- Check and make sure a baby is not too hot (a maximum of 4 TOG in total)
- When your baby moves a lot in its bed, it is advised to remove everything from the bed, also the blankets
